There is no right or wrong way to start collecting miniatures, but you may prefer some items to others because of the quality of their finish and how realistic they are. Even though miniatures can be used to play with (driving a model car, for example), their function is most often decorative.
Miniatures are often bought to build a collection, and the first miniature you choose will probably depend on a theme. The theme is up to you, but if you want to build a collection that stands out for its quality, keep in mind the importance of consistency.
