Under the command of Captain William Bligh, the Bounty embarked on a voyage in 1787 from England to Tahiti to collect breadfruit plants. However, during the return journey, due to Bligh's strict and authoritarian treatment of the crew, a mutiny broke out in April 1789. The ship's second-in-command, Fletcher Christian, led the mutiny, and Bligh was forced to leave the ship with a small group of loyal followers in a lifeboat.

Under Christian's command, the Bounty returned to Tahiti with some of the crew members who remained loyal. After staying in Tahiti for some time, the group decided to leave the island to avoid being discovered by the Royal Navy. They sailed in search of a refuge and eventually established a colony on Pitcairn Island, where they burned the Bounty in 1790 to prevent any possibility of return.
